Enslaved, Social Connections 1
After finishing many of the recent AAA titles that have been released, I finally had some time for Enslaved. I was never really too excited about it, but the demo was pretty fun. Though, as I’ve been playing the full game, I’m only bored. I have no need or want to move on. It’s just dull. It’s not all about combat; exploration and light puzzle solving is required – but it’s just that – light. I even started on hard by recommendation of Sean. Still, it’s pretty simple. I’m sure there may be more as the game unfolds, but I just don’t care. And I have no reason to get involved with the story. It’s nothing unique.
Then we have the famous mo-cap and voice acting. Yes, the voice-acting is good. But mo-cap, not so much. I still think Heavenly Sword did it much better, and I blame it on the engine. The Unreal Engine is great, but not many developers can really make the best out of it. Gearbox and Irrational have the skills, but other games just look too rough. Even the recent Front Mission Evolved had better motion acting – it wasn’t too reliant on mo-cap it seems; there were moments when the characters used body language to interact and it was believable. Even eye movement was spot on. Problem is, there’s a balance between visuals, animation, and voice work. One can’t be too abstract over the other. In the end, Enslaved’s story-telling is not bad, it’s just HS was more believable and using the UE was a bad idea.
When it comes to sharing content here at BlueGamer, I’m having to use many outside sources. I don’t have the crew or skills to code our own programs for communicating with Twitter and Facebook. For the longest time I relied on Ping.fm. Recently I haven’t been getting the results I wanted. Then I started using NetworkedBlogs. While great at first, it started delaying posts, then just stopped. I’m using a new plugin called LinksAlpha, so let’s hope that makes this process easier.
Next week I’m looking forward to playing Vanquish, and maybe Medal of Honor. A friend of the site that’s been on the show a couple times, Matt, really sold me on MoH last night. While trying to be CoD, it’s not as extreme as the mess that MW2 was. Other than that, the next big game is The Force Unleashed II.
