What do you think? Gamer Score / Achievements ²

Well people usually don’t discuss things here. No one usually comments at all. Either you are not reading these posts or you are and just not replying.

But I will ask a question anyway and hope to open up a discussion.

What do you think about “Gamer Score” or “Achievement” points?

I think they have ruined gaming.

I agree. On one hand, I’ll play a game more in order to grab achievements. On the other, I will avoid a game, or feel isolated if there’s no achievement system attached to it.

I disagree. Sure people play to collect those points for achievements or Gamer score, but I find they only act as mile stones in games. Kind of like ‘You beat this chapter.. Congratulations!’.

I personally play games for enjoyment, some games I’ll got back and try to get the maximum achievement/gamer score, but it’s because I enjoy replaying those games for entertainment purposes and the achievements offer a way of slightly changing the game play by having me do something I wouldn’t have normally done in the game (ie Mass Effect with the Renegade/Paragon system).
