Not Impressed With Infinity Ward 0

I was reading an interview on Joystiq yesterday that kind of just rubbed me the wrong way. I was hoping to get rubbed the right way, which I figured an interview on Modern Warfare 2 would do, but not exactly. The interview was done with Vince Zampella of Infinity Ward at the recent multiplayer event. This is what pissed me off:

What about something like the Zombie Mode that Treyarch did for World at War?

[Silence.]

It’s too bad our audio recorder doesn’t record the sound of eyes rolling.

That’s why I did it! [Laughs.]

So when someone is rolling their eyes, does that imply they disapprove of something? That’s fine if you don’t like something, but eye rolling is equivalent to being disrespectful. See every other year, Treyarch develops a Call of Duty game on their own. A lot of elitist gamers like to jump on the dislike-bandwagon and never play it. I myself actually enjoy the Treyarch games more than Infinity Ward’s, but I will never talk shit because it is IW themselves that created this engine/universe/gameplay-type. For instance, CoD4 introduced some amazing multiplayer elements and are borderline addictive. Treyarch took that and ran with it when developing World At War.

Anyway, World At War also included a new mode, called Nazi Zombies. This was a survival gametype in which you and three other players would survive waves of zombies while using earned money to buy different weapons. Over time, they released more maps and more improvements on the gametype, including weapon upgrades and character upgrades. This mode is fun! But was Zampella rolling his eyes at this? Why? I would think out of respect for another developer an answer would be something along the lines of this, “We have no plans to include the zombie game-type.” ….or something like that. He could have thrown in something about it being fun if he believed so. I don’t know.

Why the rolley eyes? I already have to deal with forum trolls doing that, but now game developers? Here’s what could be up: Jealous that another company has the property? Another company created a bad-ass multiplayer mode from the property? I mean, being under the gaming empire that is Activision, you realize you’re going to have to play by their rules. Is it just you think something sci-fi like that shouldn’t be in a game like this? Well fucking tell me! You really just make yourself look bad, even with all the great games you’ve developed under your belt. What? Am I taking this out of context? If so, let me know.

In the end, I can’t wait for Modern Warfare 2. It will be awesome and a lot of fun. But, from the sounds of it, MW2 won’t have a Zombie mode. I’m fine with that, but disappointed. I just hope the next Treyarch CoD title will expand on it like they have with the map packs; something that we haven’t been getting from IW.
