Childish's Week in Review 1
Well Wednesday came and went and I didn’t post any new movie reviews. Mainly because of the fact that I didn’t see anything or I had a MIB mind wipe of the past 7 days. Lucky for you last night I visited the large Korean movie theater near my apartment on the other side of the army base and war memorial. I went to go see Green Hornet in 3D at the IMAX. It seems like every movie I watch now is at the IMAX in 3D. I think the market is too saturated with 3D movies. And even though I enjoyed my experience last night, I think it could have been equally enjoyable in a normal theater. This was just one of many movies that is being made in 3D for no reason what-so-ever. Who wants Seth Rogan’s face coming out of the screen at you?
Besides the unnecessary 3D this movie was really fun. I had zero expectations going in to it. I heard of the old show but knew nothing of the Hornet. All I knew was that Kato (the Chinese sidekick) was played by Bruce Lee in the original. Michel Gondry (director) did a great job with this adaptation. This is the same guy that made “Be Kind Rewind” and Eternal Darkness of the Blah Blah Mind (forget the exact name). Also Jay Chou kicked ass. The way they made his slow down mode to spot enemies and weapons was funny and fantastic. And if you didn’t know Christopher “The Jew Hunter” Waltz from Inglorious Basterds plays the villain. He is str8 up hilarious in this movie. This is a great fun movie to watch with some one and laugh and enjoy the action. I recommend watching it. If your pockets are low, feel free to wait for it on NetFlix.
In gaming news, yesterday I picked up Dead Space 2 and (finally) Split/Second. I’ve been wanting to play Split/Second for a while now after all the good things I’ve heard about it. I picked it up used for 25$. I only had time to play it for an hour and a half, and let me tell you, I haven’t had this much fun with a racing game since the spawning of the Burnout series. And I was happy to find out this game can be a little difficult at times, and it does take strategy on some courses about when and where you should trigger devastating events. If you loved Burnout like me this game is a must OWN….not rent….OWN!
Lastly, I got to play Dead Space 2 for a short time. FYI, most new games in Korea come with about a 150 page strategy guide free with every game. Unfortunately, it is in Korean. I got to play this for a solid 50 minutes, and so far, I’m impressed with the story mode. There has been a couple freaky parts already. The graphics are great. And severing a monster’s limb and then using your powers to impale him with it on the wall is good ‘ol fashion family fun!
Green Hornet: 8/10
Split/Second: 10/10
Dead Space: too early to tell
And yes I gave Split/Second a 10 after only an hour and a half. That’s how strongly I feel about it already.
Childish out…
