Man, there’s so many ways to make that console name sound odd in a sentence. You don’t even have to be thirteen and you’ll talk about your Wii, or your friend’s Wii, in naughty ways. I originally didn’t buy the Wii on release because there was nothing on it I wanted to play. I also wasn’t too into Nintendo’s direction. At one point Chad decided to move to S. Korea, and did a quick-sale on the Wii. Yeah, we’re family, but money is money. It was a good deal I couldn’t pass up, as knew Nintendo would release a first-party title that I would totally dig. Unfortunately, Zelda didn’t do it for me although Mario Galaxy was ok.
Since then, I’ve mainly bought light-gun games. I really enjoy these and if you distance yourself from the TV just right, the aiming is good. I will say good but not perfect. The way the IR works doesn’t allow for pin-point accuracy. Sega, being as awesome as they are, added a calibration setting that helps the accuracy a whole lot – and it works…but again, not perfect. I don’t know much about the motion-plus technology, you know, the third add-on for the Wiimote that allows very precise controls. I’m hoping that this device helps with the light-gun games of the future. And if it’s possible, it would be great if devs could make a patch for previous title to take advantage of the precise movements. Then again, I could be wrong and the motion-plus doesn’t do this.
I’ve been playing a lot of Ghost Squad which has quite a bit of replay value. My RE: Umbrella Chronicles disc is scratched to hell unfortunately (toothpaste didn’t work, but at least my Wii is minty fresh), but the biggest surprise here is Nerf! The Nerf game came with an excellent light-gun/Nerf gun hybrid, and the game itself is fun as hell in multiplayer. There are no real enemies or even a story here, but you run around (on-rails) shooting robots, blocks, and targets. It’s the challenges that keep it going, and I highly recommend it.
As for accessories, I bought a charging station back in the day that would only hold a charge for five minutes. Energizer seems to have the best available which are decently priced. The conductive charging is what I want. It allows for an attachment to be on their, as well as the wiimote skin. Otherwise, you’d have strip it down like a banana just to charge it. Seems like the Wii has a lot of set-up and tear-down if you ask me. Although, Nintendo or a 3rd party will have to come out with a new gun that fits with a skin and motion-plus…and nunchuck.
Nintendo Points. Apparently if you buy a points card you have to choose to either use it for the Wii or DSi. That is crap. I’s prefer them to be universal. Between the Zune and Live they are and I’m assuming as well as the PSN although I haven’t used it much. This is something I don’t hear about much but Nintendo needs to fix it!
